How Often Should You Power Wash Your House

Power cleaning often has a lot of sound effects. One of the most important is to keep your house looking nice and improve its curb appeal. For many homeowners, this is more than just making their home look excellent.

You must follow specific rules if you reside in a neighborhood with a homeowners association. Most people know they shouldn’t leave their trash cans out all week and must regularly cut their grass.

Only some people know that their roofs and siding may also be subject to HOA rules. Mold and mildew cause ugly things like dark spots on ceilings and green siding. Because of this, HOA violations often target them. Power-washing them with a mild bleach solution can also be easily fixed.

Power washing can also be considered maintenance that keeps your home in good shape. Mold, algae, and mildew can make a house look bad, but they can also do much damage. Wood rot and water damage are pervasive in homes that one must keep up. Taking care of these problems while they are still just skin deep is a good idea. Fix them long before they cause actual harm.

How Often Should You Power Wash Your House

How often you pressure wash your siding will depend on what kind of siding you have and how well it looks. Pressure washing is usually only necessary if the siding has a lot of mildew or dirt. But homes with a lot of pollen or where the soffits get covered with spider webs should be power washed once a year.

If you have vinyl, metal, or composite siding in your house, you should pressure wash it once a year. If you have wood siding, you should only pressure wash when dirt or mildew has built up. That’s unless you use very light pressure once a year to wash away pollen or spider webs.

When is the Ideal Time to Power Wash Your House?

The best season to pressure wash your house is late spring, after the pollen has settled. Since pressure washing requires you to look closely at your home’s siding, it’s a great time to look around the outside of your house for rot, pests, and other problems.

What can go wrong when you pressure wash a house?

There can be too much of a great thing when you pressure wash. Even though it’s fun to watch a pressure washer blast away dirt, you have to be careful not to crack vinyl siding, dent aluminum siding, blast away unintended paint, damage the wood, or force water into places where it doesn’t belong. Always use the proper nozzle, keep your distance from the wand, and set the pressure to the most minor needed to get the job done.

Always ask the siding manufacturer how to use a pressure washer best. Some manufacturers say to avoid it altogether and use a soft bristle brush, mild detergent, water, and the garden hose to clean the siding.

Power-washing to get ready to paint

In addition to getting your home ready for an exterior paint job, having a professional pressure wash the siding is a great and very effective way. As part of our maintenance services, we can use pressure to clean your siding if that’s what’s best.
